2023 Hair Goals: The Ultimate Natural Hair Inspiration
During my natural hair journey I’ve experimented with a variety of cuts and colors. In 2023 I’m back on my hair growth journey but the experimentation continues! But first, a trip down memory lane for the ULTIMATE natural hair inspiration, or hairspiration as I like to call it.
Am I making it onto your 2023 hair mood board? Lemme know! 😉 Now let’s get into what I’m looking forward trying this year…
goddess braids all the way!
Here’s what I love about goddess braids:
ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING! Let me just say I have never lasted 4 weeks with a protective style until now! I love the look and comfort of this style. The low tension and easy maintenance means my scalp is happy and I’m happy. The low tension and light weight of these knotless braids means I’m able to keep this protective style in for longer. Check out my YouTube video on the prep and take down process for this style.
2. braid outs
Here are my top tips:
Start with blown out hair for a softer, more stretched result.
Use a curl creme for lasting definition
Never skimp on the product. More product = more hold.
Don’t be discouraged by failed attempts, it’s taken me a few tries to learn what works for my hair. Check out my YouTube video to see how I achieved this look!
3. PRODUCTS, PRODUCTS, PRODUCTS
The more I learn about my hair the more I realize that wash and gos are like 70% technique and 30% products. In saying that, I’ve become more open to ditching my gel only and mousse only wash and go ways and I’m looking forward to trying out the following things:
Mousse and gel combo - I hope to achieve the best of both worlds: all the great long-lasting hold gel has to offer, coupled with a smidge of volume and the shorter drying time provided by mousse.
Curious to try a cream only (no gel) wash… I don’t have high hopes lol but I’m curious.
I am exploring Pattern Beauty for wash and go again! My last try was a fail, but since then I’ve changed some much about my hair regimen and the way I style my hair, so I’m curious to see if I can get their products to work for me now.
I will definitely be bringing you guys along on the journey with me, so stay tuned!
4. Headband wigs
It’s the versatility for me! I Headband wigs are a super easy and affordable switch up. It allows the flexibility of length, shape and color, without any of the damage or commitment. Definitely on my list of next styles to try!
5. Curly tape-ins
I’m also super intrigued by the versatility of tape ins. I’ve been seeing more and more stylist blend tape ins with kinky/curly textures. Here’s what I’m curious about:
Maintenance - will this style survive weekly wash and gos or will the tape ins be slipping out in the shower?
Price - tape ins are definitely on the pricier side. Does the longevity of this style justify the price?
Damage - is there a risk of breakage at the root?
As more and more stylists that work with curly hair become familiar with this style I’d be interested to know their thoughts and find out more!
