6 Tips for EFFECTIVE Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year again! Time to shed off that winter seasonal depression and start new, and one of the best ways to start is by letting go of some of the clutter you’ve been accumulating. We are all victims of consumerism and the first step to recovery is admitting it.

Here are my top 6 tips for getting your Spring Cleaning rolling:

Refillable cosmetics are the way forward. Refills are often cheaper and they are a great way to minimize waste. Some of my favorites refillable products are the Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer with SPF 30 and Niacinamide, Ouai Detox Shampoo, and Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant.

Wear what’s in your closet. I know we all feel like we need to reinvent ourselves every once and a while but before buying new clothes I always consider these 3 things:

  1. The longevity of the trend — will I still like it a year from now?

  2. Do I need it — do I have something similar already in my closet that will allow me to take part in the trend without having to buy the exact trending item?

  3. Will it suit me — if we’re being honest, half the battle with trends is figuring out how it will translate on your body type. Knowing what styles and proportions look good on you and going with that is always a good idea.

Drawers and organizers are my secret to keeping things tidy without having to try so hard. These are super budget friendly and I love that it’s really minimum effort for maximum organization.

Repeat after me: use your what you have before adding to your stash! Whether it’s hair, skin or makeup, I know it’s tempting to jump on every trend. Just remember that the products will be there next month and the month after that. Finish what you have and know that not everything will work for you so sometimes it’s better to stick to what does. I think by now most people have heard of a capsule wardrobe. In case you haven’t, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothing composed of thoughtfully curated, easily interchangeable items designed to maximize the number of outfits that you can create. One hurdle I think a lot of us struggle with is the idea of narrowing down your wardrobe to an extent that seems unrealistic. This article provides tips on how to create your capsule wardrobe but most of all, what to do with the clothes you have left. My favorite tip is after choosing your staple items, move what you have left out of sight, and then get rid of everything you haven’t missed after 30 days.

Vacuum pack, vacuum pack, vacuum pack! If we’re being realistic, some people are just maximalists and vacuum packs are the best way to create space. Simply showcase your seasonal wardrobe and pack away all the rest.

I’m excited to hear if you have tried or are interested in trying some of these tips and tricks in your own Spring Cleaning this year. Any additional tips to add? Comment below!
