How to Find a Good Curly Hair Salon
It’s BIG 2022 and there are still stylists out here that have NO IDEA what to do with curly hair … and the worst ones will pretend like they know what they’re doing. It can be one of the hardest things to find a good natural hair salon to care for your curls and coils. We’ve all been been there! So here’s what I look for in a good curly hair salon.
Do your research
Find reviews from people with your hair type
Search on YouTube for salon experiences in your city
Look through their social media pages, if you don’t see hair that looks like yours you might want to proceed with caution
This is what their page should look like … Take note of what their specialties are, if you’re looking to color your curls, don’t go to someone who doesn’t specialize in coloring CURLY hair.
Salon Skanda is my go to in Atlanta. I go to Kristal, who is amazing. She’s even attended Cut it Kinky classes by Black Girl Curls to learn more about care for super curly and kinky textures. I love her! And my hair does too!
Get a consultation
Give the salon you’re considering a call. The BEST salons will offer you a consultation before your appointment to get to know you and your hair before just diving right in. You should look for a salon and stylist that is interested in the HEALTH of your hair, just as much as the final look. Mention how important healthy hair is to you and see how they respond.

If a salon ticks all of these boxes, make an appointment but start with something simple at first. Don’t opt for a color and/or cut at the first appointment. Try a simple wash and style service that won’t permanently affect your hair.
